This is where I'm outlining the progress of my dreadlocks from day one. When I was doing research about dreads in the months before I actually did it, I had very little luck finding a site where people consistently posted pictures of the evolution of their dreads. I decided to start my own!

The dreads are GONE!!!! 1/9/11-11/21/12 Almost 2 years. It was TIME for a change, that’s all I have to say!
I cut them off a few inches from the roots, put a ton of conditioner in my hair, and brushed them out. It probably took 1.5-2 hours to get them all brushed out. Then I went off and got my hair did at the salon! Wooo!
1 year and 10 months. They’re about the length of my hair was when I decided to dread it!
1.5 years old! Last night I separated one of my dreads. It just sort of happened, I hadn’t been planning on it. It was split a bit at the top and I just ripped it all the way down, and now I’ve got two instead of one!
They’re almost 17 months old now! It’s crazy! I have about 10 new baby dreads, similar to the one you can see in the second picture. It’s been an interesting process. They were finally totally mature around a year and a few months later a whole bunch of new hair started begging to be dreaded, so it’s like I’m back at the beginning again in a sense!
I currently have all of my little dreads rubber banded and I’ve been back combing them but I’ve noticed they require less maintenance than my bigger dreads did. I’ve used a crochet hook to combine some of my tiniest baby dreads with bigger nearby dreads. I’m still washing them about once a week with a natural bar of soap.
They’re 15 months & 9 days old at this point! They’re finally getting some length to them!
1 Year of Dreads
This is me before my dreads:

Here they are, brand new:

Here they are around 3 months:

There was a big change around 4 months, they finally started to look like dreads. I was doing a lot of crocheting around this time:

Thanks for following my dreadventure! I’ll still post pictures as they continue to get older.
Happy Birthday, Dreads!!!
They’re 1 year old today!!! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year. So much has changed! I love them so much, and now that they’re a year old I feel like I can finally really enjoy having dreads because they’re all grown up! They’ve changed a whole lot and they’re awesome. I would encourage all of you to get dreads if you think you’d be interested. They’re a crazy process and they teach you a lot about yourself.
